On Shabbos, you will not need to run to and fro, neither to find food, nor to dissipate nervous energy by distracting yourself. You may put yourself at ease; you can rest easy! All this is in contrast to the confusion, anxiety, and disorientation of the Israelites’ first experience of the desert.
Once every week, Shabbos provides an opportunity to rediscover our embodied selves and the blessing of being in one place at one time. Shabbos invites us to commit to our feet and the range that they afford us.
