Worship can prepare our hearts to hear God’s word, because it draws us near to God’s presence. Sometimes just taking a walk in nature can heighten our awareness to God’s presence and prepare our hearts to hear God.

Preparing Ourselves to Listen: Becoming Aware of His Presence

When our will is bent, we have a very difficult time sorting out God’s voice from our own desires, because our will is bent toward the object of our desire — whether that is pleasing people, financial gain, or some illicit relationship.

The problem with introspection is our eyes are on us. We have to lift our eyes off of ourselves and onto Jesus.

One of the barriers that sometimes hinders people from hearing God’s voice is introspection.
