The husband's profession? A painter. It's now both a studio and a residence. The ground floor serves as the studio and bedroom. The studio boasts a spacious environment with a ceiling height of 3 meters. Its layout resembles a gallery, with ample wall space for displaying artwork. Access to the studio is available from the exterior and from the ground floor bedroom. It's a home aimed at living and working with more freedom and enjoyment. Constructed around a 60-year-old pepper tree, this house has been built to International Passivhaus standards by architect @asa_alexandersymesarchitect, interior designer @paiano_design_ and owner/builder @souter.built. The home is designed to be in use 24 hours a day, as an office for Souter’s building company during the day and at night converted back into a comfortable home. Featuring salvaged & waste materials throughout, the home also makes use of Paperock, a fully recyclable paper-based cellulose material, for joinery in the living space that houses the TV and contains a cleverly concealed office space behind two sets of pocket doors. @megsharpeinteriors has a knack for reimagining historical buildings, so when a Manhattan power couple approached Sharpe about updating their 1920s Upper East Side maisonette, she was more than up for the challenge. Because the wife loves color and art, Sharpe did not shy away from bold gestures. The husband’s den is paneled in deep green, while the wife’s master bath features pale pink tiles that somehow manage to feel both retro and elegant. Jewel-like light fixtures abound throughout, maintaining a sense of playfulness (a Venini chandelier over the breakfast table, a Barovier & Toso chandelier in the master bedroom). Above, a bleached walnut mirror hangs above a ball-foot vanity, both by Meg Sharpe Interiors. The sconces are vintage, and the floor tiles feature a stone pattern.
