Use a switch that is rated for whatever amperage you plan to use it with.
Loosen a negative battery terminal and install the shunt directly to the battery.
Keep in mind that if you ever disconnect a battery bank cable, you need to disconnect one of the solar panel wires from the charge controller.
Typically a 4-8 gauge wire is recommended.
I personally like to use 6 gauge wire here for a 40 amp controller.
The wires that attach to these components are typically the largest wires in a system and will supply power to all appliances.
Typically 8 gauge wire is used if the charge controller is 40 amps or less, and located less than 10 feet away from the battery.
