Yeah, on the NIMBY point, a book I'm reading pointed out that the American dream has sort of morphed into "buy a house in the town you grew up in, and live there peacefully until you die, without the neighborhood ever changing." That's the European dream, not the American dream.

I understand his desire to keep Slow Boring level headed, but I do feel that all to often, Matt forces you to read in between the lines and parse what he really thinks, making you study "Yglesias thought" across multiple platforms.
