Love Incarnate: Twenty Years After Awakening

Here is what spiritual awakening is about: living a fully human life – brimful of love, death, and (yes!) profound sorrow – all the while being neither defined nor imprisoned by any of it.

We humans are only (ever) on the receiving end of wisdom, as it arrives. So long as surrender operates (whether you’re awake or not), there is no end of blessings.

Neither take it seriously nor try to make it disappear.

Among the truest blessings of awakening is that life and thoughts about life are finally recognized as distinct phenomena.

Discover what it is to be receptive rather than in constant pursuit of the goal. Grow quiet and listen. Hold still.

Being awake is less a particular type of experience than it’s simply a mode of being – an orientation to self, to unfolding life.

Isn’t that the point, after all? To get to be a person and yet not to be lost in the head? To be liberated from lifelong identification with what life has endowed us with, good or bad? What more could a person wish for?
