Conversely, during higher intensity periods of training, practice is more focussed on executing the skill under more competitive conditions. Overload is provided by the intensity of skill execution. The focus of practice then will generally shift to perfecting the expression of force in the skill and/or mental aspects of competitive performance.
A logical question would be to ask why volume is progressively overloaded prior to intensity. This order is primarily driven by the demands of competition.
