De-brand
After all, wouldn’t you rather hear unflattering criticism about you (and by extension, about your brand) in a private context than online or in the national press? As you get clearer about your identity – a work in constant progress and change – you will start to get a sense of what kind of actions represent your brand.
Ultimately, I argue for a view of the self and of identity that is the opposite of the personal brand: an unstable, shapeshifting thing determined by interactions with others and with different kinds of places.
The same process applies to artists, writers, and anyone online who has felt pressure to confine themselves to an arbitrary “personal brand.”
