Communicating for a Change: Seven Keys to Irresistible Communication

Don’t defend bad communication habits with the line, “Well that’s not my style.”

Presentation matters. A lot.

“How can you expect your listener to care enough to remember what you’re saying when you can’t?”

“Well, we both make our living trying to convince a group of people that they’re glad they came out to hear us,”

my effectiveness comes from knowing where I’m going and getting there. Preaching’s the same way. I can talk about a lot of interesting stuff—and it can all be true, for that matter. But if there’s no point, no ultimate destination, then all I’ve been doing is talking.

1. What do they need to know? INFORMATION 2. Why do they need to know it? MOTIVATION 3. What do they need to do? APPLICATION 4. Why do they need to do it? INSPIRATION 5. How can I help them remember? REITERATION

People who were nothing like Jesus, liked Jesus.

Know who you are. Accept who you are. Be who you are.

The church needs your voice and your insight. As does your community and the world. For that reason, never stop growing and developing as a communicator.
