The four pillars of gnosis- science, art, religion, philosophy- are rarely, if ever, approached with a curiosity towards the non-human lens. What is science in the society of crows? The religion of a morel mushroom? The art of a hurricane? The philosophy of stone? We, as beings dwelling within our own umwelt, cannot answer these questions without the assistance of the Other, and they are not questions which once answered, if ever answered, never need be asked again, for reality is fluid. You do not ask your lover what they need from you and then never ask the question again as if needs and desires are made immutable once made known. Rather than “soma sema”, a body, a tomb, it is an anthropocentric gnosis which becomes our tomb: a mirrored tomb. To assume knowing is to close oneself to more, to question, to possibility. To survival. To know in collaboration is rhizomatous, it is emergent, and it is acceptance of an unanswerable question, but one you never stop asking. A central tenet within gnosticism, homo nosce te ipsum, man, know thyself, is not only anthropocentric, but auto-centric: an auto-gnosis. When we are rendered blind to the thou-ness of the Other, we are left only with a self referential divinity. If all we worship is made in the likeness and benefit of the self(or human) then self worship becomes the likely and tragic conclusion of this autobiography.
