I feel like Eno is exploring this question of what creativity is and what that process looks like for different people. The way OpenAI talks about what a large language model generates is, by definition, incurious about creativity. It’s like, what if we just spit stuff out and you have no idea where it came from?

When I hear artists and AI evangelists argue about whether people who generate text using ChatGPT or images using Midjourney are truly creative, I wonder about the question behind the question.

It’s scary to think about machines replacing human creative output. But I tend to take the glass-half-full lens when it comes to innovation; I’m a perpetual technology optimist. Tools like DALL-E and Midjourney and Stable Diffusion will greatly amplify human creativity.

But here’s the point, the promise of this technology is speed and efficiency, a shorter route to an end product, and the removal of barriers between you and your creative self.
