Art, AI, and the Courage to Create
In the face of ever-improving generative AI tools, you have to translate your own life context — experiences, rawness quirks, humor (eg. my affinity for awful dad puns) — into the creative work. Because if you are only expressing what can be “seen”, technology has it covered. But what can be “felt”? That is still uniquely ours.
Art isn’t just about creating something beautiful; it’s about saying something meaningful. And for that, you need more than just an algorithm you need a human heart.
People keep asking me about AI and I really think how you feel about AI comes down to whether you believe art is about producing things (images, objects, data files, “content”) or about a way of operating in the world as an intellectual, spiritual, and emotional creature.
