Gender is understood in a Buddhist context to be a construction of various factors, much as can be found in contemporary writings. In Tibetan presentations of the physical body, the woman’s is said to be more closely associated with the ḍākinī, and the man’s with the heruka, but these associations are not based on tangible physical traits.
