Traditionally, cognitive psychologists have made a distinction among different areas of study: memory, attention, categorization, language acquisition and use, decision-making, and one or two other topics.
The brain is part of the central nervous system (CNS). Similar to the control tower at an airport, your brain acts as its control center, directing all the comings and goings of information, processes, and impulses.
One important one is that the brain is an information-processing machine. That is, it does not aim to merely reproduce messages sent along it, but rather to transform them into action for the animal.
