Welcome to the 3rd episode of the Slow Travel With Me series! This series introduces some of my favorite Kyoto attractions, including peaceful temples away from the hustle and bustle where you can pause during your busy travels and enjoy the present moment. It also features spots with fewer tourists, allowing you to experience the city’s tranquil atmosphere, as well as artisanal shops I‘ve discovered tucked away in small alleys. Here are the places featured in this video: 1. Jizoin Temple I visited Jizoin Temple during its special autumn opening period. The temple stands in a serene forest, surrounded by maple trees and bamboo groves, creating a poetic scene that has its own unique beauty even in the rain. 2. The Kita Residence This historical building now also functions as an art gallery showcasing Nordic vintage furniture. The reservation-only space allows visitors to enjoy a high-quality and immersive experience—appreciating both the refined architecture of traditional Japanese culture and the beautifully curated furniture pieces. 3.Susanatsu 白夏 This café also exhibits ceramic works crafted by Okinawan artists, including teaware, tableware, and decorative pieces. The owner introduces each artist and their works, and visitors can purchase their favorite ceramics to take home. I hope you can also experience a slow and relaxing time in Kyoto! instagram.comKyoto - a few first impressions from my 4-day stay in this beautiful, varied city. Sunny, snowy, windy, traditional, green, and with so many beautiful places. 1-5: I had the most special tea ceremony 🫖🍵🍮 at @tearoom_toka and was welcomed by a mystical snowfall, and visited the @kankakari_ gallery with their current "wooden arts and crafts" collection exhibition. 6-8: The city is so walkable, and I always tried to take the smallest streets and hidden paths, which led me to @oud.kyoto They restore old Japanese furniture, and you can visit the little showroom. Just two steps from there, I found a cute little self service outdoor pottery shop. 9-13: Beautiful @maanahomes in a traditional machiya. You can find these traditional structures and patterns all over the city. For me, the best way to discover a new city is by running, with coffee and cake stops. Ending the day with a run, followed by a calming sento bath is one of my favorite things to do in Japan. 🧘🏼♀️ 14-15: I wanted to go to @dupreekyoto for lunch, but when it was closed, I was quite frustrated because this happened quite often to me in Japan: on every page, the restaurants seem to be open, but they’re still closed. So, I ended up at @mementmorikyoto by chance and had the most delicious traditional set meal for lunch, all made by this sweet lady. 🍜🥒🍚 16-17: In January, I started to take a deep dive into fermentation with "The Noma Guide to Fermentation" and discovering that @maanahomes holds fermentation workshops at @maana.atelier was perfectly timed. I will do a separate post for that because the workshop with K was so special, and I learned so much from her! 🤍🫶🏻 Let me know if you would like a full Kyoto guide with all my favorite spots listed. 🍜🥒🍚☁️🥟🥬🌳☕️🐉

instagram.comStumbled across this rare book store in Kyoto- there seems to be plenty of shops like this around the area, but this one stuck out to us. Their collection of wood block prints were incredible. So much range and at really great prices. 2000 yen for the piece I purchased ~ I show it in the video ☺️ going to get it framed when I’m back in Aus. If anyone knows of any other great print and poster spots in Kyoto, please please share! I’m still on the lookout for something more modern and A1 sized. 🧐 (an archived exhibition poster maybe?) 🫰🏼Location: Kikuo Shoten, Kyoto
instagram.comKeihan Uji Station, located in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, serves as the terminal station on the Keihan Railway Uji Line. The station was originally opened on June 1, 1913. In 1995, it underwent a significant redesign by architect Hiroyuki Wakabayashi. His design introduced a circular, open-concept structure that emphasizes natural light and spatial fluidity. This architectural approach marked a departure from traditional station designs, aiming to create a more inviting and harmonious public space. The innovative design of Keihan Uji Station was recognized with the Good Design Award in 1996. Further acknowledging its significance, the station was selected in 2000 as one of the “Best 100 Stations in the Kinki Region” by the Kinki District Transport Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Wikipedia Beyond its architectural merits, the station serves as a gateway to several of Uji’s cultural landmarks, including the historic Uji Bridge, Ujigami Shrine, and the Tale of Genji Museum.
instagram.comIn Kyoto, we visited Taiga Takahashi’s concept store/art gallery ~hybrid~ It’s a beautifully curated space blending textiles and interior design. The store features his latest collection alongside sculptures and art pieces-all thoughtfully displayed together. There’s even a serene courtyard at the back that lets in a bunch of natural light. Even if you’re not looking to buy anything, it’s worth visiting just to appreciate the space itself. The ~quiet~ in store feels like the perfect escape from the busy surrounding streets of Gion, which can get really crowded and overwhelming.
instagram.comEpisode 2 of the “2 Hours in Tokyo” series!! In this episode, my friend @nicsantanaa shows me around one of her go-to spots: Daikanyama. Places mentioned: ⭐️ Isshin ⭐️ Daikanyama T-site ⭐️ Second Street To get there, you can either take the Yamanote line and walk from Ebisu, or take the Toyoko line to arrive at Daikanyama station! instagram.comWelcome to the 9th episode of the Slow Travel With Me series! Here are the places featured in this video: 1. Nanzenji Temple Within Nanzenji Temple, Gojo Garden is a serene, square-shaped courtyard where visitors can admire the seasonal changes from the temple corridors. I visited in autumn, when a gentle breeze rustled the crimson and amber maple leaves, creating a poetic scene. Slowing down and taking in such moments might just be the true meaning of travel. 2. Kacto Located along the Kamo River, Kacto is a cozy café offering a picturesque view through its large glass windows. I ordered their seasonal chestnut-flavored pancake set for brunch—it was subtly sweet, with the rich aroma of chestnuts and cream melting together in each bite. I highly recommend stopping by for a delightful treat! 3. The Kawai Kanjiro Memorial Museum Once the home of the renowned artist Kawai Kanjiro, this residence has been transformed into a memorial museum showcasing his ceramics, calligraphy, and paintings. The vases in the museum are adorned with fresh flowers daily, reflecting Kanjiro’s philosophy of finding beauty in simple, everyday details. If you appreciate art and craftsmanship, this is a must-visit spot in Kyoto. I hope you can also experience a slow and relaxing time in Kyoto!
