Ties in mark fisher’s concept of hauntology - And now we find ourselves haunted by this future that we vaguely expected at the time, and that was terminated somewhere during the 80s by the values related to neoliberalism.
All these products prey on this overarching sense of nostalgic melancholia contemporary society. Plays on this sense of a time which was once hopeful, but due to the rise of neoliberalism and late stage capitalism.
Capitalism, it seems, can’t let go of the past. Like a necromancer, it reanimates the corpses of bygone trends, ideologies, and aesthetics, then sells them back to us at a markup.
