AI systems today are often opaque and poorly understood, if they can be unpacked to show how the output was reached, algorithms can increase auditability. If people exercise judgement with access to auditable information provided by an algorithm, this could increase transparency, accountability and correct for human bias.
we now need to ask whether other features like how long a person charges their cell phone at night and their parent’s highest level of education should or should not be used in making predictions about that person’s behavior.
