This article dives into the actual correlation between the Marshmallow Test and a child’s delayed gratification skills in adolescence/adulthood (surprise is there are none.) There were also studies that tried other silver bullet skills like social-emotional and mathematical interventions, but both also had no long-term effects. The only educational intervention that seemed to have a long term effect/impact on children are high-quality long-term educational programmes can affect key outcomes in adulthood, especially for children who come from disadvantaged communities like Carolina Abecedarian Project. They wanted to create change for children by improving their environmental experiences from newborn till age five with centre-based care, comprehensive medical services, nutrition support, and family counselling. In short, silver bullet intervention skills don’t seem to have lasting effects, and also the marshmallow test isn’t the most accurate way to measure a skill a child will possess long term.
