We have to allow ourselves to realize that we are complete fools; otherwise, we have nowhere to begin. We have to be willing to be a fool and not always try to be a wise guy. We could almost say that being willing to be a fool is one of the first wisdoms.

Fools and their money are soon parted, Ma would say.

But once we learn to see ourselves as already, and by nature, foolish, it really doesn’t matter so much if we do one more thing that might threaten us with a verdict of idiocy. The person we try to love could indeed think us ridiculous.

Though all the world is full of fools, there is none that thinks himself one, or even suspects the fact.

Above all, never fool yourself, and remember that you are the easiest person to fool.
