Zoroastre est obnubilé par la gloire d’Ahura Mazda et de son panthéon, et décidé à en finir avec le ritualisme excessif de la religion de son époque, qu’il considère être une fausse religion. Sa position puriste semble toutefois intenable :

Comme le bouddhisme, comme plus tard le christianisme puis l’islam, le zoroastrisme conquiert les masses grâce à la conversion des rois, laquelle s’opère ici volontiers à travers les guerres, Ahura Mazda étant un Dieu guerrier, au nom du Bien.
