Psalm 16 feels more accessible after we’ve walked closely with David.

The primary function of Chronicles is to show the trajectory of the covenant fulfillment,

the Davidic covenant, which has two parts: David’s dynasty and Solomon’s Temple.

We have to be careful about building theology from the Psalms unless it can be backed up elsewhere in Scripture.

Second, it does so within an essentially simple framework, which places Jesus credibly within the turbulent world of first-century Judaism. I can imagine people disliking this picture of Jesus; I cannot imagine someone arguing coherently that it could not be historical.

The early Christians believed that Jesus was Israel’s Messiah, not, as some Jewish apologists today have absurdly said, “the Christian Messiah.”

God has promised himself to you in Christ, and he will secure you to himself in Christ. To be hidden with Christ in God is to be as secure as Christ is.

YHWH wants their allegiance in action and in thought; this is the primary theme of Deuteronomy.
