their leaders are supposed to make decisions by consulting with God.

In other words, Cranmer’s convictions were both evangelical and “catholic”: “[C. S.] Lewis notes that Cranmer and the other makers of the prayer book ‘wished their book to be praised not for original genius but for catholicity and antiquity’” (Alan Jacobs, The Book of Common Prayer: A Biography [Princeton: Princeton University Press, 2013], 66).

Their position of leadership requires them to undergo an even more thorough cleansing process than the people undergo.
