The novel is narrated from the viewpoint of a science fiction writer called Phil Dick. Dick describes in detail the life of his seemingly schizophrenic friend, ‘Horselover Fat’. The name ‘Horselover Fat’ is a clever linguistic pun on the name Philip (Phil-Hippos – ‘horse lover’ in Greek) Dick (dick, is German for ‘fat’). This was clearly an attempt
