At the very least, prophecy is truth telling.

Hermeneutics is something to be overcome by redemption, whereby the curse of interpretation will be removed in a hermeneutical paradise where interpretation is absent.

This doesn’t mean that a particular ecclesial body is the dispenser of grace or the arbiter of salvation; rather, there simply is no Christianity apart from the body of Christ, which is the church. The body is the New Testament’s organic model of community that counters the modernist emphasis on the individual.

In the modern world of theology and biblical studies, scholars began believing that they had to establish first the ancient “meaning” of the text and only after that ask what doctrine, theology, or ethics modern Christians should derive from those ancient texts today.

The intellectual underpinnings of Bonhoeffer’s convictions on life in a Christian faith community can be traced to his early works Sanctorum Communio and Act and Being, which undergirded his interpretation of the church as a primary form of God’s self-revelation.

Assenting to the redemptive focus of all Scripture is often far easier than disclosing it. How one gets redemptive truth out of a text and into a sermon can stretch both exegetical and preaching skills.

Christ clarifies and specifies the nature, aim, and trustworthiness of all God’s dealings with us because Christ is where those dealings with us come to ultimate fruition.
