Scrolling social media makes it harder to read books because it trains your brain to discard previous context in order to understand the next thing, whereas understanding the next thing in a book requires retaining previous context.

I get asked about tools (drugs) for focus all the time. Remember: You can train focus. It’s like a workout. You set a timer for 2-3hrs. You force yourself to work the entire time. Every time you skip to something else you add 10min. 1 bathroom break allowed. Next time is easier.
