Seeing cats in windows on walks - you know when someone has a dog but cats are a welcome surprise, only noticed when you’re peering into intimate spaces like a home. Or hidden under cars. Or perched in a tree. I love peering into windows on my walks and getting glimpses of cats. Dogs are so public; they are walked day and night, they call attention

Cat curled, sleeping,
black and white ball,
tail turns, dreaming,
breathing quite small;
eyelid opens, pupil narrows –
then, back to dreams.

I look at the cats and wonder just how much goes on inside their tiny heads. To believe these creatures, who know so much, who can simplify everything into “i like that” and “i will murder you if you do that again”, actually live inside my house.
