Weblogs were a strategic lever for Google. Funding them made sense at a time where they needed the web to have more content. When they didn’t need them—when they stopped being a profitable lever—they were discarded. And the ecosystem sunk fast.
It’s true; Tim Cook hopes to make health central to Apple’s legacy. But his vision—the one meant to alter civilization—probably doesn’t entail selling $2,200 stationary bikes or $4,000 treadmills.
That’s another key difference with Slack, based on the same architectural divergence. In Slack, employees can DM each other within their company’s workspace; in Discord, users can DM anyone as long as they know their handle (and as long as that user accepts DMs).
If we want to make progress, we need to make decisions. By decentralizing decision-making we enable decisions — and hence progress — in any place in the organization while getting more engaged colleagues at the same time.

Such strictness means the supplier and consumer don’t need to know each other, and without knowing each other they also have zero-recourse in meatspace-land, where things can get messy, slow and expensive.
