In the Web2 world, market infrastructure and market governance were bundled by platforms. Amazon, Ebay, Upwork, Uber, and other such marketplaces bundle both market infrastructure (in the case of Amazon, even physical infrastructure through FBA and Amazon Logistics) and market governance.
For the marketplace to succeed, the value of convenience it provides must, therefore, continuously outweigh the monetary gain of moving off-platform (ie. not having to pay the commission the marketplace charges).
Newer/smaller brands will start shifting more efforts to alternative ways of getting in front of new customers; samples bundled into food delivery boxes, “Spend $50 and get a free sample of [whatever new product]!” partnership type stuff.
