Non-fungible token (NFT) is a term used to describe a unique digital asset whose ownership is tracked on a blockchain, such as Ethereum. Assets that can be represented as NFTs range from digital goods, such as items that exist within virtual worlds, to claims on physical assets such as clothing items or real estate.

The things that move culture—film, music, books, art, writing—have historically been fairly illiquid. Cultural impact hasn’t mapped to economic value created or captured. Liquidity is a measure of market efficiency, and the “market” of culture is inefficient.

Having said that, Axie Infinity demonstrates that DAOs are an incredibly innovative business structure with significant potential for value-creation. In the coming years, more DAOs with tangible earning power will emerge, and investors should consider adding exposure to this emergent asset class.
