In a recent thread on crypto, I argued that crypto and tokens enabled the formation of businesses that heretofore could not be created. Some responded that cash could be used in place of tokens, and therefore the ‘innovation’ of crypto was not meaningful. I beg to differ.
Scale and loyalty are generally the most important metrics to me as an investor as they are the most sustainable — and measurable — competitive advantages. They are *much* more important online than offline, which is why the internet economy has such pronounced “winner take most” dynamics relative to the offline economy.

Historically, the primary strains of creative tools have been text editors, spreadsheets, HyperText,¹ and Computer Aided Design (CAD) software. For the purposes of this essay, “digital creative tool” will refer to tools that foster creative thought in their human users, whether that be a design, writing, or multimedia tool.
