Execution Does Not Matter: If your startup addresses a market that really wants your product, you can screw almost everything up and still likely be successful. On the flip side, if you are really good at execution, but the “dogs aren’t eating the dog food”, you have no chance at winning.
Like the idea that open source software just isn’t “sustainable”. That unless we somehow find a new way to force users to “give back” (i.e. pay/donate!), we’re going to burn out people who donate their “free labor”, but won’t do so forever.
You don't have to be the smartest person in the group at all, maybe not even the most talented. But you have to have a way in which you can bring all these people together. I do think you're going to need some really, really, really pointy skill that you can lean into.
