Over-identification with rebellion or contrarianism.
Initial thought: Thoughts on authenticity versus performance. Beyond just being the thing I think that a lot of the litmus test of whether or not something is purely performative is respect and foundation.
Secondary thought: perhaps the question isn’t whether something is authentic versus performative, but rather whether the performance itself appreciates or mimics. Is it fully fleshed, contextual, and nuanced or a flat caricature?
