The Lorax Society, circa 1990. I started the radical environmental/arts project to encourage people to read Dr. Seuss’s “The Lorax.” I read the book at festivals, libraries, and schools, and even testified at the Maryland State House in Seussian verse while standing on a stump against a plan to log state forests. Unfortunately, my newsletter got passed along to the lawyers at Random House, who sent a cease-and-desist. But I continued to read the book to groups whenever possible.
Here then is where the real excitement lies in Magic: it is in the possibility of the Magicians being able to work upon themselves and improve themselves according to some chosen scale of values.
