fantastic article about how we used to look up at the stars to influence our worldviews and beliefs, and how much of that we have lost
"The creative process, so far as we are able to follow it at all, arises from the interplay of the conscious and unconscious, and intuition is the spark that ignites it. The intuitive mind does not proceed by logical steps or by the slow accumulation of facts; it leaps, as it were, into the unknown, grasping at possibilities that have not yet been articulated.
This is why the artist, the poet, and the visionary often rely on intuition
—they sense the shape of something new before it can be fully formed.
- Carl Jung
Collected Works, Vol. 15, 1922
"There are two things that every person should know about Al.
First, Al is the first tool in history that can make decisions by itself.
All previous tools in history couldn't make decisions. This is why they empowered us. You invent a knife, you invent an atom bomb..., The atom bomb cannot decide to start a war, cannot decide which city to bomb. Al can make decisions by itself, and autonomous weapon systems can decide, by. themselves, who to kill, who to bomb.
"Second, Al is the first tool in history that can create new ideas by itself. The printing press could print our ideas, but could not create new ideas. Al can create new ideas entirely by itself. This is unprecedented. Therefore, it is the first technology in history that, instead of giving power to humans, it takes power away from us—and the danger is that it will increasingly take more and more power from us until we are left helpless and clueless about what is happening in the world."
"Intelligence is the ability to solve problems. Consciousness is the ability to feel things such as pain, joy, love and anger. We tend to confuse the two because in humans and other mammals intelligence goes hand in hand with consciousness."
- Yuval Noah Harari
Consciousness and intelligence are distinct. We have consciousness.
A.I Doesn't.
This distinction gives humans an edge in tasks requiring emotional depth or moral reasoning.
For example, while Al can compose music, it cannot feel the emotional resonance of a melody.
This greatly limits its creative depth.
"The reason we go to the artists we go to, or the writers we go to, or the filmmakers we go to, is for their point of view. The Al doesn't have a point of view."
— Rick Rubin
The significant Question as always is,
Do We Care as consumers?
