Reminders for myself
“Anxiety is the dizziness of freedom.”
—Kierkegaard
“We treat confusion like a flaw in the system instead of a sign that the system no longer fits.”
our unconscious gives us clues – through dreams, fears, longings, emotions, and so on – into the parts of ourselves that need to be recognised, reclaimed from the shadow and integrated into the personality for us to become a more whole, authentic person.
To produce original output, avoid consuming the same input as everyone else. Say no to trending videos, NYT bestsellers, widely cited papers. Read ignored texts, plumb the past for forgotten perspectives. Step outside the zeitgeist so you can see it with fresh eyes.
You cannot process thoughts or develop perspective while endlessly consuming content, so periodically disconnect from the web, dwell some days in darkness, and then you’ll awaken new insights, for it is only when night obscures the world that it reveals the galaxy.
What you consume, you become:
• The books you read.
• The content you watch.
• The people you spend time with.
• The thoughts you feed your mind.
Choose wisely.
Write because your future self needs a map back to this moment. Write because the act of remembering is its own kind of healing. Write because it’s how you breathe. Your words don’t need an audience to matter.
