I'm not surprised at all. Building good consumer products is insanely hard and takes lots of time and iteration.
I wonder how many of the fears I hear about AI are really fears about ourselves as humans. How easy it is for people to replace others in the name of power and efficiency. To steal from others and call it innovation. To project love, belief and meaning onto the inanimate.
