if you take notes over a long period of time, you will develop a perspective that's impossible to develop from reading any one thing. we have biases that prune away thoughts that don’t fit the narrative in your head in the moment - having a repository of older thoughts that you can revisit is life-giving.

- notetaking tools today can surface known unknowns. If I know that I know this thing, but I don't remember it, I can go find it. what it doesn't do well is show you unknown unknowns, making connections that you haven't thought of yet.
