Eleanor of Aquitaine (1122–1204) was one of the most powerful women of the Middle Ages. She is famously associated with the so‑called “Court of Love” at Poitiers (c. 1168–1173), where noblewomen—including Eleanor and her daughters—allegedly presided over playful trials of love.
