Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit, all divine, Dwell within this heart of mine; Cast down every idol throne; Reign supreme—and reign alone.

The Spirit is the Spirit and does what the Spirit wishes. Sometimes it is present in spectacular and dramatic form; at other times it breathes the silent whisper of life-giving hope.

Because God wills for you to be a doer of His Word, you may be confident that He wants you to find an application whenever you come to the Scriptures. For the same reason you may believe that the Holy Spirit is willing to help you discern how to flesh out your insights.

Such moments are more than “flashes of insight.” They are, as the apostle John explains, communion with God himself.7 In those moments the Spirit is making the gospel personal to you.

The Spirit takes God’s timeless truths and makes them come alive in us. He helps us understand them, shows us how to implement them, and empowers us to accomplish them. He transforms task lists into a relationship.
