discrete representations & AI

imagine a sentient algorithm, trained off reality only captured by digital cameras and texts. discrete representations through pixels. they do not 'see' the same way we do. it does not 'listen' the way we hear. instead, just a vector of a position of pixel and its represented color. just a representation of reality.

I think what differentiates humans from animals is the capability of recognizing that I am a small part of something greater: whether a soceity, community, or even the whole universe. To recognize I am merely a millionth of that unseeable whole. But perhaps to live is to contribute to that greater whole. Scientists may do science for selfish reason

I’ve always wondered when language becomes arbitrary. But in prehistoric times, maybe they weren’t just concepts, but also things. I would have thought categories were first, but maybe it was things first. And then
