Joseph Dirand’s decors embody echoes of the past, often sparked by the projects’ buildings, histories, or neighborhoods, the designer says, “to establish strong emotions.” His recently opened Surf Club at the @fssurfside, FL, potently alludes to its Jazz Age heyday but in contemporary fashion. “It’s not about re-creating another time,” he adds, “but designing spaces where people of all cultures can find a connection.” Discover the French designer’s celebrated projects from the new @rizzolibooks tome Joseph Dirand Interior through the #linkinbio Photo by Adrien Dirand

Here's one way to make a kids bathroom not so childish: designers @jesseparrislamb used illustrator Saul Steinberg’s Aviary wallpaper in the kids bathroom of their client's downtown Manhattan loft to add a touch of whimsy to an otherwise sober and timeless design. @megsharpeinteriors has a knack for reimagining historical buildings, so when a Manhattan power couple approached Sharpe about updating their 1920s Upper East Side maisonette, she was more than up for the challenge. Because the wife loves color and art, Sharpe did not shy away from bold gestures. The husband’s den is paneled in deep green, while the wife’s master bath features pale pink tiles that somehow manage to feel both retro and elegant. Jewel-like light fixtures abound throughout, maintaining a sense of playfulness (a Venini chandelier over the breakfast table, a Barovier & Toso chandelier in the master bedroom). Above, a bleached walnut mirror hangs above a ball-foot vanity, both by Meg Sharpe Interiors. The sconces are vintage, and the floor tiles feature a stone pattern.
