Love to create~
Some days I even include elements of creative writing, poems or prayers I may have written, and I then spend some time reflecting on how and why I came up with the piece. My purpose is to consciously develop my writing technique, not just to write about what happened.
The Creative Workflow
Before you begin a project → pause, invite Holy Spirit to hover over the “formless and void” of your draft, sketch, or task.
As you work → remind yourself: “The Spirit is here, so I create in freedom.”
When you finish → release it back to Him: “May this carry Your breath, not just my effort.”
In order to be an artist, I must:
Show up at the page. Use the page to rest, to dream, to try.
Set small and gentle goals and meet them.
Remember that it is far harder and more painful to be a blocked artist than it is to do the work.
Remember that it is my work to do the work, not judge the work.
We might start off by paraphrasing Oscar Wilde’s poem, substituting the word ‘Art’ for ‘Love’.
Art will fly if held too lightly,
Art will die if held too tightly,
Lightly, tightly, how do I know
Whether I’m holding or letting Art go?
When Things Don't Work (Because Sometimes They Won't)
Listen, not every Note will be a hit, and that's okay. Here's what to do when a Note flops:
Wait 24 hours
Look at what did work that day
Try again with a different angle
Keep showing up
The secret isn't perfection – it's consistency.
Sister Corita Kent used pop art to make her views on worship and religion accessible to those who were not devout catholic. In the same Pop artist at the time used similar techniques to make the art world more accessible to the masses.
