Learn transferable skills to boost your confidence at solving leader problems

Your leaders are always looking for that one team member who can quickly solve their problems.

They silently assess us based on how we manage the leader problems they throw at us. Are we cool about it? Pissy? Stressed? Uncertain? Our body language reveals what we really feel (without saying it). Therefore, whatever we say (to hide our feelings) won’t matter much. A lot of it happens subconsciously.

The more we look “uncertain” or worried, the lower our chances of being chosen to help.

Here’s what I did to help me fix that: Learn transferrable skills.

Let me explain...

Most employees care a lot about job security. But more often than not, they think about it in a “small” way. They do things to make them look more valuable to the company and avoid getting fired or laid off. They worry that one mistake could risk their job security. Because of this, they focus on making safe choices and avoiding risks.

However, avoiding risks does not help us gain confidence.

That’s where learning transferable skills comes in.

These are skills you can use anywhere in your industry such as communication, leadership, or problem-solving. They are not specific to one company. They have nothing to do with product knowledge. These are career assets that will keep you employed in your industry .

The more transferrable skills you have, the more valuable you are to the market, and the less scared you’ll be of losing your job.

In other words, “taking risks” is not going to feel as scary.

The more risks you take, the more you learn, and the more confident you become in managing and solving leader problems . The more leader problems you solve, the more confident you’ll be in the eyes of your leaders.

And when you radiate self-confidence, they are more likely to ask you to help solve leader problems.
