The Genealogy of Morals, Nietzsche:

Chapter One: Essay on the Origins of Good and Evil

-Nietzsche asks: “Under what conditions did Man invent for himself those judgements of values, `Good’ and `Evil’?

-In the pre-moral (where there was no concept of morality) good was associated with nobility and bad with poverty> the “slave revolt” led to devastating cultural implications allowing all the weak to take over the world amd chabging the meanings of goog and bad

-This revolt of slaves in morals creates the principle of ressentiment (resentment)—an instinctive reactionary desire for revenge involving the belief that something (or someone) is responsible for suffering.

Chapter Two:Guilt, Bad Conscience and the Like

about the origins of notions of the bad conscience and punishment:

-Guilt, for the earlier societies, meant merely owing the debt. It was a mechanism for them to punish the guilty, those who did not keep up their promises.

-a conscience makes you keep promises

Bad conscience is our tendency to see ourselves as sinners who ought to repent for their sins.

It is also this bad conscience that enables a “man’s will to find himself guilty and blameworthy to the point of inexplicability, his will to think of himself as punished, without the punishment ever being able to balance the guilt, his will to infect and poison the fundamental basis of the universe with the problem of punishment and guilt” (p. 63).

Chapter Three:What is the Meaning of Ascetic Ideals?

"Der Mensch würde lieber Nichts wollen, als überhaupt zu wollen." Er fügt hinzu: "Die drei großen Schlagworte des asketischen Ideals: Armut, Demut, Keuschheit"

Asketische Priester und Reuße

Für Nietzsche ist der asketische Priester ein offensichtlicher Feind des Lebens. Und nicht von den Stärksten kommt der Schaden, sondern von den Schwächsten. Im Christentum repräsentiert der heilige Priester den Inbegriff asketischer Ideale - derjenige, der auf weltliche Wünsche verzichtet. Er fügt hinzu: "Die Kranken sind die große Gefahr des Menschen, nicht die Bösen, nicht die 'Beute der Beute' (S. 88).Nietzsche beklagt weiter, dass "sie alle Männer des Grolls sind". Er fügt hinzu, dass es in der heutigen Welt eine Schande ist, glücklich zu sein, weil es zu viel Elend gibt. Diese Krankheit kann nicht geheilt werden, da die Ärzte und Krankenschwestern selbst krank sind. Der asketische Priester ist daher der „Champion der kranken Herde“.

Als Folge der Entstehung asketischer Priester sehnt sich der Mensch nicht mehr nach Leben auf der Erde, sondern darüber hinaus - in himmlischen Bestrebungen. Asketische Ideale versuchen, die Jenseitswelten zu erreichen, und dabei fügt er sich selbst Leid zu, um dieses himmlische Streben zu erhalten.

Summary:

"Willen zur Macht" - Macht ist sowohl für die Moral als auch für die Sklavenmoral von zentraler Bedeutung. Die Sklavenmoral, die heute dominiert, und der asketische Priester, der heute herrscht, halten die Macht aufrecht.

Während er die starke und mächtige Macht leugnet, regiert dieser Asket als Doktor der Masse über die Massen. Als jemand, der gekommen ist, um sie vor weltlichen Ungnisen wie Macht zu retten, ist das das Paradox der Macht in der Genealogie. Trotz dessen, was heute dominiert, wird es immer durch schwache asketische Ideale dominiert. “Der Mann wird sich das Nichts wünschen, anstatt sich überhaupt nicht zu wünschen."
