Discourse here, especially about gender, is totally disconnected from reality. We storm and rage about postpartum bellies (which heal pretty quick!) but almost never discuss real problems I see the women in my life struggling with: Overwork, substance abuse, chronic stress, deep anxiety, loneliness & difficulty connecting (yes, women are lonely too!) The immaturity of male partners they love, that can't be solved with cliche nostrums or breaking up, because they don't want to leave. I realize it's a lot less fun to sit down and open our hearts and talk about our problems and see if we can help each other out. That's not why we come to Twitter. This place is the digital Colosseum and we want to see blood. But it's increasingly obvious to me that we spend our time fighting here about sensational stuff that no one can do anything about, because we feel impotent to make real change in our own lives.
