Artist statement 1-14-25

Combining mediums has always been of great interest to me. Experimentation to see how different mediums can interact and work together visually. In my practice I am interested in how illustration, printmaking, and embroidery, and animation/experimental film can work together to convey visual narrative and interesting themes. Conceptually I am interested in conveying my personal experiences and dialogue with the internet, impermanence, and spirituality. I tend to be drawn to darker, gritty subject matter and forms. I adore texture. My work explores and reflects on my experiences in my childhood and how they relate and moments of human vulnerability and connection that ive had, and by reflecting on these things through my work i hope to understand myself better and allow people to interpret and reflect on their own experiences

I enjoy the small things that have had an effect on and i find those particularly interesting

In my work I would like to conceptually explore relationships between myself and others with technology and the internet. I plan to use a multidisciplinary approach incorporating cyanotypes, for their blue screen esc quality, as well as illustration and embroidery, thread symbolizing the various ties between the internet and people, as well as representing the ‘world wide web’.

I'm fascinated by the combination of different mediums and how they interact visually. In my work, I explore the fusion of illustration, printmaking, embroidery, and animation/experimental film to convey visual narratives and explore meaningful themes. Conceptually, I focus on personal experiences, my relationship with the internet, impermanence, and spirituality. I’m drawn to darker, gritty subject matter and forms, and I have a deep appreciation for texture. My work reflects on my childhood and moments of human vulnerability and connection. By examining these experiences, I aim to better understand myself and encourage others to reflect on their own lives. I’m particularly interested in the small, seemingly insignificant moments that leave a lasting impact.

I’m drawn to make multi-media works because multimedia scratches my brain in just the right spot. Seeing different mediums interact visually is so interesting and exciting to me. And in any and all work, I adore texture. I enjoy illustration, printmaking and embroidery and enjoy working with those to explore a variety of conceptual ideas. My work explores my own personal experiences, particularly small moments that had lasting impacts, human vulnerability and connection and my childhood. I am also interested in personal dialogue with the internet and internet culture. With these ideas I hope to make visually interesting work that can have a plethora of interpretations and meanings that people can connect with.

In this course I plan to make illustrations and cyanotypes and stitch them together, almost like a quilt, in a 3x3 checkered pattern. I plan to embroider the cyanotypes and the illustrations as well. Additionally, I will be making 2 large scale drawings (maybe 3 if time permits). One of them will be a long horizontal rectangle, almost scroll-like with very busy and detailed illustrations done with microns. Concept and actual measurements TBD The second will be an 18x24 illustration with micron that will also incorporate embroidery and other mediums. I want to potentially make fabric frame sewn around this one as well.

In advanced drawing I intend to make a series of large-scale illustrations that incorporate embroidery and themes of I also intend to make 8.5x11 illustrations and cyanotypes and stitch them together and do embroidery on them.
