i am convinced that screen use suppresses memory. whenever i abstain and find myself on a long walk, memories from long ago appear out of thin air, important moments that contain valuable information and emotions that i have forgotten, but must remember in order to move forward. ofc they were always there, always seeking to be recognized and understood, but they had been continually suppressed by the malefic hypnagogic state that screen use induces. it creates artificial worlds to take us away from our own, and by design. consequentially, we forget who we are and where we came from. we accept visions, ideas, and identities from entities we know nothing of. we lose our memory, lose our way, and lose our individuality. whether we scroll or post, we do not escape this fact. yet when we look away and center ourselves on reality, we wake up from the lucid dream that is social media. memories return, and like the drunk who sobers up, one can only wonder where he had been and what had happened during all those years that slipped by.
