I don’t disagree with publishing shorter pieces, but I think that’s where editing comes in. Writing long pieces and editing them down (or choosing not to) is how you acquire the skill of becoming a better writer.
A Substack newsletter is a medium and a genre. Like books, magazines, newspapers, fiction, nonfiction, and journalism, it has demands and constraints—and readers with preferences.
