Run your dog until his tongue is hanging out. If he is still full of energy, run him again and he will love you for this. Before a training session begins, use a little exercise to release some of your dog’s energy, this can increase his ability to focus during the session.

Try running backwards away from your dog, crouch, and clap, and then show your dog a toy or food.

With treats in hand, encourage your dog to chew on one of the items. When it is in his mouth, put the treat close to his nose and say, “drop it!” As soon as he opens his mouth, click and treat him as you pick up the item. Then return the item to your dog.
