The Problem with Men: When is it International Men's Day? (and why it matters)

Being a man (and being a human) means you are part of an incredible spectrum of personalities, lifestyles, sexualities and gender. There is absolutely nothing that completely unites men apart from the feeling that we are men. Some of us are hiding who we really are, for fear of being judged by the ‘proper’ men, perhaps because we’ve been taught it’

Masculinity is in a crisis of its own making, and toxic masculinity and ludicrous overconfidence in our own ability is harming men, too.

it’s a special kind of person who can get infuriated by someone raising so much cash for victims of domestic abuse. Though, believe me, those very special kinds of people do exist.

Notions of masculinity vary so much both historically and culturally that it’s nonsensical to talk about it in absolute terms.

Nobody else has the right balance of madness, pomposity, determination, comedy chops, staying power and hubris to make this quest work. I am cursed, but it has to be ME.

These men are angry at something, but they don’t know what, exactly. It’s easier for them to blame people who are different to them than it is to blame themselves, or more pertinently the system that has encouraged them to bottle up their feelings and made them dispensable.

The patriarchy is grabbing you by the pussy and you’re such a little bitch you actually cheerlead for it. When are you going to grow some balls and become a feminist?

It was not fun to be at the centre of this hurricane of twats.

Being able to turn stupidity into cold hard cash did make the whole thing a lot more palatable and less aggravating.
